30 Killed After Twin Suicide Bombings in Kabul
Kabul, Afghanistan - June 30, 2016 mid-day when a local shop keeper heard a loud blast, followed by a powerful second one. The attack took place in an area in Kabul which seems to be a favorite spot for Taliban's suicide attack missions as court members were targeted in the same area last May 25. According to reports, there were two Taliban suicide bombers who attacked several buses filled with police cadets killing 30 and injuring 58.
There were 231 officers and cadets who were set out in five vehicles from Wardak to Kabul. The first bomber said to have walked up closely to the convoy of buses and detonated his explosives. Cadets and officers rushed in to help the survivors of the blast when the second bomber detonated a vehicle filled with explosives/
Ten days prior to this bombing incident, there were 14 people who had been killed in Kabul and 8 were injured when a suicide bomber blasted off a minibus carrying Nepali security guards who works at the Canadian Embassy in Kabul. It was then followed by another bombing hours later in a crowded market in the northern province of Badakhshan which killed at least 8 civilians and wounded 18 people.
This series of attack is a warning served by the Taliban community that it can surge violence even in the presence of American troops backing up the Afghanistan government. As per Taliban spokesperson, "By organizing this attack,we wanted to show Americans and NATO military officials that we conduct attacks wherever, and whenever, we want".
