No Sumptuous Banquet on Duterte's Inauguration Day
Manila - For the past decades, inauguration of newly elected Philippine President would always entail fancy feast on a wide elegant dining hall in the Malacanang Palace, well-dressed elites and important diplomats and an air of festive joyous celebration. But this time, the 16th President of the Philippines opts for a minimal celebration.
Duterte, mayor of Davao City for 22 years, - a tough talking political icon, wouldn't want the usual fancy banquet. According to incoming Communications Minister Martin Andanar, "It's going to be totally different. It's not going to be champagne bottles popping and cheese". Instead of riding in the president's limousine, a bullet-proof Mercedes, President Duterte will ride on a pick-up truck. There will only be five menus for the occasion according to Lisette Marques, member of the inaugural committee.
What's on the menu? According to Marques, the menu will be monggo guisado in cups, pandesal (bread) with white cheese and beef longganisa. Durian tartlets and fried bananas will be served for dessert. Would it be wine or soda for the drinks? Nope. Guests will have a taste of the local orange juice- "dalandan juice" and pine-mango cooler. Duterte will take oath midday today, June 30, 2016 in front of 627 individuals as per guest list at the Rizal Hall of Malacanang Palace.
